Suncheon Bay Reeds Festival 2016
The Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA) joined the celebrations of the 18th Suncheon Bay Reeds Festival held on 4-6 November 2016. The festival is an annual event regularly organized by the Suncheon City Government to showcase the beauty of Suncheon Bay and raise the awareness of the general public about the importance of wetlands to the society. Suncheon Bay is an internationally important wetland as recognized by the Ramsar Convention. It is home to a diverse species of plants and animals and visited by around 200 species of birds every year, including migratory birds.
The festival featured a number of activities for visitors including symposiums, experiential learning, and folk concert, among others. The RRC-EA setup an exhibit booth at the Suncheon Bay Eco-Museum for the duration of the event, and the RRC-EA Executive Director served as one of the keynote speakers and delivered a short presentation on “the Ramsar Convention and Wise Use of Wetlands” at a symposium on 4 November 2016.
