RRC-EA organizes preparatory webinar for AWS9

More than 100 participants from 27 countries joined the preparatory webinar for the 9th Asian Wetland Symposium (AWS9) held on 11 November 2020 via Zoom. The event recorded over 170 registrations and was organized by the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA), with guidance from the AWS International Steering Committee, as part of the build-up for AWS9. The webinar featured perspectives of wetland practitioners from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Mongolia and the Philippines on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and provided an outlook by technical experts on wetland education, wetland biodiversity, culture and communities, wise use of wetlands, and wetland policy and research. It aimed to deliberate on current issues based on research and experience; provide an introductory session in preparation for AWS9; and encourage interaction among participants and generate ideas for further discussion at AWS9.

The AWS is a ‘regional forum for all’ that provides opportunities to diverse target groups to share and learn mutual knowledge, wisdom and practical experience on the conservation, wise use and sustainable management of wetlands in Asia. It brings together a wide range of wetland stakeholders such as policymakers, managers, practitioners, donors, promoters, academicians, researchers and students from both the government and non-government sectors.
