Steering Committee Members of the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia meet at Suncheon City, Republic of Korea

Ramsar National Focal Points and government officers from Bhutan, Cambodia, Japan, Republic of Korea (Ministry of Environment and Suncheon City) and Myanmar convened on 12 February 2019 in Suncheon City, Republic of Korea for the 10th Steering Committee Meeting of the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA). The annual Steering Committee meeting provides a venue for members to discuss about RRC-EA accomplishments and plans as well as on matters related to policies and operations of the RRC-EA. The Ramsar Secretariat also joined the meeting through teleconference facility. The Steering Committee is the governing body of the RRC-EA and is comprised of selected Heads of Ramsar Administrative Authorities or Ramsar National Focal Points from RRC-EA Member Countries in East, Southeast and South Asia.

The RRC-EA is one of the regional initiatives formally recognized by the Ramsar Convention. It is one of four (4) Regional Centers in the world that serves as a regional platform for capacity building, information exchange, and cooperation among governments, international and national non-government organizations, local communities, technical experts and business organizations.
