Steering Committee Members of the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia meet at Suncheon City, Republic of Korea
On 6-7 February 2018, Steering Committee Members of the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA) convened for its ninth meeting at the Ecograd Hotel in Suncheon City, Republic of Korea. The annual meeting serves a venue for members to discuss priority wetland issues in East, Southeast, and South Asia and on the accomplishments, plans and operations of the RRC-EA. Participants included government officers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Suncheon City and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, and Mongolia. The Ramsar Convention Secretariat also joined the meeting via teleconference facility. The Steering Committee is the governing body of the RRC-EA that provides guidance in the development of policies and programs for the Center. It is comprised of selected Ramsar National Focal Points from RRC-EA Member Countries.
The RRC-EA is one of the regional initiatives formally recognized by the Ramsar Convention. As a Ramsar Regional Initiative (RRI), the RRC-EA is one of four Regional Centers and established through the initiative of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea. It serves as a regional platform for capacity building, information exchange, and cooperation among governments, international and national non-government organizations, local communities, technical experts and business organizations.
