RRC-EA, National Wetland Center, and Korean Wetland Society team up for World Wetlands Day 2017 workshop

Continuing the celebration of World Wetlands Day 2017, the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA), National Wetland Center of the Republic of Korea (ROK), and the Korean Wetland Society jointly organized the “International Workshop for World Wetlands Day: Wetlands our natural safeguard against disasters” on 22 May 2017 at the National Institute of Ecology, Choongnam Province, ROK. This event aimed to raise the awareness of wetland managers and stakeholders of wetlands from the ROK on the fundamentals of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and the contribution of wetlands in support of DRR measures. Speakers included experts from the RRC-EA, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) based in the United Kingdom, Wetlands International – Indonesia, and from academic, research and private organizations in the ROK. The workshop was part of national celebrations for three (3) global events: World Wetlands Day (2 February), World Migratory Bird Day (10 May), and International Day for Biological Diversity (22 May).
