Career Awareness Lecture in Palma High School, Suncheon City, Republic of Korea
The Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA) was invited to Palma High School, Suncheon City, Republic of Korea for a Career Awareness Lecture on 13 July 2017. This lecture aimed to give an opportunity for students to learn from real stories of career professionals and to help students decide on their future career paths.
Palma High School organized the event and invited dozens of lecturers from different fields of expertise. The RRC-EA Executive Director shared his experiences working in an international organization. More than 30 students representing the VANK (Voluntary Agency Network) club of Palma High School attended the lecture. VANK is a cyber-diplomatic organization which started in 1999 and aims to create close relationships among youth in Korea and other countries so that all foreigners can have a holistic understanding of Korea. It expanded operations in 2005 by connecting to school clubs.
Mr. Suh Seung Oh, RRC-EA Executive Director, gave an introduction on the Ramsar Convention, conservation and wise use of wetlands, World Wetlands Day (WWD), and RRC-EA activities, while WWD hand fans were distributed to all students. The students were very satisfied after learning about the Ramsar Convention and wetlands, and on the work of an international organization based in their hometown. The club VANK members in Palma High School expressed strong interest to work in an international organization in the future.
